Those first weeks at home with a new baby are a blur of feeding, rocking, diaper changes, sleepy cuddles and figuring out your new normal. Your newborn session doesn’t need to add more stress to that season.

My in-home newborn sessions are relaxed, baby-led and focused on documenting your family as you are. There is no pressure for your baby to sleep the entire time, no complicated posing and no expectation that everything goes perfectly.

Photographing your newborn at home also means you don’t have to pack up everything your baby might need and leave the house. We use the spaces with the best natural light, whether that’s your bedroom, nursery or living room, and create images that feel personal to your family.

Your home doesn’t need to be perfectly decorated or spotless either. It just needs to be yours.

What to Expect From Your Newborn Session

Newborn sessions move at your baby’s pace.

If your baby needs to eat, we take a break. If there’s a diaper change halfway through, that’s completely normal. If your baby wants to be held instead of sleeping peacefully in a bassinet, we photograph them in your arms.

I’ll gently guide you when needed so you never have to wonder what to do, but I also leave plenty of room for the moments that happen naturally.

Older siblings are welcome to move, play and take breaks instead of being expected to sit perfectly beside the baby. And if your pets are part of your family, we can include them too.

Crying, feeding, toddler wiggles and unexpected interruptions are all part of life with a newborn. Your session doesn’t have to be perfect to create photographs you’ll love.

When to Schedule Newborn Photos

Unlike traditional posed newborn photography, lifestyle newborn sessions don’t have to take place within the first 7–14 days after birth.

If you want to document that extra-tiny newborn stage, we can absolutely photograph your family during those first couple of weeks. But if you need more time to recover, adjust and settle in at home, you haven’t missed your opportunity.

Because my approach is focused on connection rather than specific newborn poses, there is much more flexibility with timing.

I recommend reaching out while you’re still pregnant whenever possible so we can plan around your due date. Once your baby arrives, we can finalize your session based on when you and your family feel ready.

What to Wear for Newborn Photos

Keep it comfortable and simple.

Soft neutrals, subtle textures and muted colors photograph beautifully during in-home newborn sessions. Instead of having everyone match, choose colors that coordinate naturally with each other and with your home.

For baby, simple is usually best. A neutral onesie, favorite swaddle or just a diaper can keep the focus on all those tiny newborn details.

Most importantly, wear something you feel comfortable in. These photos are about your connection with your baby, not putting together the perfect outfit.
